MORE

Fun real-world fact: Donnadieu means "given to God", and was historically the name bestowed on orphans who were raised by French priests.

How a xaela came to be a woman of the cloth is a long story, and one quite a few residents of Ishgard are already familiar with. In brief: Sister Fortuna was saved from certain death by a Halonic missionary on a trip to the Azim Steppe. She dedicated her life to Halone, despite the inherent misfortune of her birth. She lived and breathed scripture for over twenty years, knowing all of her suffering was just and right, and then she found out it had all been based on a lie. This  shattered her faith   broke her inside   was quite disappointing. Fortuna officially cut ties with the Ishgardian Orthodox Church after the restoration of the Firmament was completed. She opened an almshouse, where she welcomes those in need of a hot meal or a temporary place to stay—with no questions asked, but a kind shoulder to lean on if one should want to talk.Fortuna insists upon seeing the good in people, no matter who they are or what they've done. If the clergy could see the company she keeps now—hardened criminals, users of forbidden magic, thieves and perverts and assassins—they'd faint. But the miscreants she surrounds herself with make her feel more at home than the church ever did. It's not that she's gullible, even if a life spent inside the Holy See left her sheltered; it's that she wants to give everyone an opportunity to be good. Sometimes her trust is misplaced, but she'll always give people the chance to be better.   And maybe she likes the danger.   And maybe if she gets hurt, she deserves it.There's a soft care in everything she does, and she leaves nothing to half-measures. She's an excellent listener, good at making others feel comfortable, but she'd sooner swallow her own tongue than open up about herself to anyone else. The further away she gets from the church, the more her hidden mischievous streak emerges, mostly in the form of good-natured teasing. Anyone who manages to push past her quiet exterior knows there's a fiery, passionate woman beneath; reduced to embers by Ishgard's snow, but not yet extinguished.

  FIRST IMPRESSIONS

  SLOW BURNS

hooks

Alms.    Fortuna has been living in Ishgard for over 20 years. She regularly helped distribute hot meals and winter clothing for residents of the Brume when she was with the church, and she continues to do so independently. She helped you when you needed it.  Church.    The xaela nun is an oddity, but an oddity you're familiar with—you were, or are, a member of the clergy as well. Or perhaps a Scholasticate student, or simply a devoted worshipper of Halone. Maybe you're an oddity, too, and there was kinship to be found in being alone together.  Confess.    You recognize that voice—she was the one on the other side of the confessional booth in Saint Reymanaud's. She's heard your secrets. Does she still remember? Do you have more to confess?  Healer.    You're injured. You found her or she found you. Who you are or how you were hurt doesn't matter—she'll do everything in her power to heal you.

Steppe.    You're a xaela from the Steppe, and you feel Fortuna's eyes burning into you when she thinks you're not looking. Curiosity, longing, apprehension. She misses a home she can't remember.  Tumet.    But you remember her. She was one of your tribe—one of the children who didn't make it, or so you thought. Who was she to you? And who is she now? (Ask OOC.)  Inspiration.    After years spent reading them in secret, Fortuna has started writing romance novels. Forcing herself past her shyness, she asks you a question: have you ever been in love?  Danger.    She looks like an easy mark. She looks like she'll believe anything you say, if you're careful about it. Would it be fun for you to corrupt a saint?  Refuge.    Fortuna's almshouse in the Firmament is a refuge for anyone in need of a temporary place to stay. You need a place to hide or recover; you know she doesn't ask questions and she's good at keeping secrets.

Personal carrd: here!

21+ only, please.    I'm in my thirties. I only want to write with other adults.  ic/ooc.    We all really keep having to write this shit out, huh? I am extremely firm on the boundaries between IC and OOC, and you should be as well. If you can't separate your character's feelings from your own, or you otherwise have trouble discerning fiction from reality, we will not be a good fit for RP.  time.    I have an unpredictable, stressful job, a lot of hobbies besides XIV, and a chronic illness that flares up sometimes. Please don't make demands of my time or be clingy with me. I'm around when I'm around.  discord.    I'm a very private person, and I've had too many experiences with people ignoring the above two requests. Please don't ask me for my Discord. I will give it to you when/if I feel comfortable enough to do so. Feel free to follow me on Bluesky! Side note: if you did have me added before, please send me a tell! I lost access to my old account and I'd love to hear from you again.

romance.    I don't write monogamous or exclusive romantic RP with anyone, ever, because it too often causes issues with the IC/OOC rule. If that's fine with you, feel free to flirt with Fortuna to your heart's content!  themes.    Fortuna is great fun in fluffy, lighthearted scenes, but I would also love to explore the more serious themes present in her backstory of religious trauma and feeling like a stranger within her birth culture.  post length.    My RP in public spaces / channels is on the shorter side, no more than 2 messages, because I find it easier to follow in an actively scrolling chat. Multi-para RP is great for party chat or pre-planned / private scenes. Post length REALLY doesn't concern me as long as you're giving me something to interact with; I love snappy back-and-forths as much as I love writing longer scenes.  etc.    I feel like I sound super standoffish but I promise you I am SO NICE, I'm just very shy! Send me a tell or do a walkup! I'll be so happy! Thanks for reading! ♡

lore

Fortuna has only scattered, foggy memories of her time on the Azim Steppe; a hot sun and the buzzing of flies, the faces of her parents made murky with time. When she was ten summers old, a missionary from the Ishgardian Orthodox Church found her tied to a tree and on the brink of death. He cut her free and saved her life, an act she still considers a miracle to this day.The Holy See was still attacking au ra on sight in Coerthas, and the church adopted her with the intention to make an example of her—do you see? These beasts can be domesticated. We still hold power over them—look how loyal and fangless this one has become.Fortuna threw herself into her worship of Halone, too young to fully understand the complexities of her situation. She believed what many Ishgardians at the time did—that au ra were descendants of dragons, and thus, that they were partly to blame for the Dragonsong War. But the church kept her safe. They'd taken pity on her and saved her.

If their gazes were cold, or their words cruel and their punishments harsh—wasn't that simply what she deserved? Shouldn't she be grateful just to be alive?Over the years, Ishgard's stance on au ra changed, and as Fortuna grew older, she let herself wonder what else the church was wrong about—and her doubts came to a head after the true cause of the Dragonsong War was revealed.Twenty years of guilt, and it had all been for nothing, in the end.
